Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers this morning. You guys are seriously the best. It's been a strange day - thinking back to what was taking place one year ago. As I said earlier, I wasn't super close with my uncle, but it's tough watching your family go through something like that. Please know how much your thoughts were appreciated.
After work I scooted my butt to the gym for a run. It was TERRIBLE. I ran 3.75 miles in 40 minutes and burned 431 calories. Sounds good - but again, my legs felt like bricks on that treadmill, and I think the culprit is a lack of real, solid stretching. Runners in the house: how do you stretch and how often?
I whipped up a quick dinner post gym with some chicken I'd been marinating in lemon pepper sauce + a big ole' whopping salad.
Check out the bubbly bubbly in the frying pan.
Then I added some leftover couscous that had been hiding in the fridge for a few days. Notice my broken spoon holder (that was a gift from my grandmother, I might add) that Bill accidentally broke the other day :(
Then I mixed up a nice salad with:
- mixed greens
- arugula
- carrots
- cucumbers
- mushrooms
- artichokes
And then splashed some new dressing on the greens.
I liked it!
I also thought I'd show you where I actually eat all my meals. Sadly, the lobster placemats just don't do justice to our table.
And Bill turned his meal into a wrap with a Flat-Out, which I thought was inventive, so I took a quick pic.
Baltimore Blogger Meet-up
Some of you have emailed or commented about this, and I thought I'd give you a head's up. I'm thinking sometime in late March (mainly because I'm busy every weekend until then), and I was thinking about a Friday or Saturday night. Again, please email me at onalobsterplacemat AT gmail DOT com if you'd like to join. More details to follow!
Time for Lost + The Top Chef Finale. Who's excited? If you're a Top Chef fan like me, who's your pick? I'm pulling for Carla - DC females represent!

I hear ya, a good warm-up and stretching can make a world of difference for your running! I find that the best way to get ready to run is not necessarily to do static stretching, but to just get the blood moving a bit. I always walk at a brisk pace on the treadmill for 3-5 minutes before a run, and I try to do the same outside. Or, if you're in your house, just putting on some music and gettin' your dance groove on for the length of one song usually does the trick too. If you're feeling tight anywhere, now is the best time to stretch a bit. Apparently stretching cold muscles can actually do more harm than good!
ReplyDeleteWhoops, sorry, that was a brick of a comment.
I'm totally rooting for Carla, but I have to wait to buy it from iTunes! :) It's always so hard for me to avoid finding out the results from various websites!
ReplyDeleteI would love to meet up! Just let me know as it gets closer! Hey, by any chance have you been to the OK Natural Food store in Baltimore? I want to go so bad and was thinking about going soon, maybe we could meet up??
ReplyDeleteI'm rooting for Carla!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a treadmill and I don't stretch beforehand and my legs sometimes do feel brick heavy! But I do warm up for .30 miles, brisk walking on an incline. After a long run, I've also found that doing gentle hatha yoga (20 min, from yogadownload.com) helps A TON.
ReplyDeletemmm lemon pepper!
ReplyDeleteI'm rooting for Carla! I loved Fabio so I'm bitter that he's gone!
I'm busted! I actually don't stretch half as much as I should. It feels good when I do though!
ReplyDeleteI AM SO MAD AT TOP CHEF RIGHT NOW!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is all.
:(
*waves* I don't think I've commented here before...so hello :D
ReplyDeleteI'm a runner and I do a stretch routine for about 10 minutes after a run. I'm hypermobile though so if you're not (which is probably better!) than I think 20 mins is the recommended, especially after long runs. I also do hatha yoga for about 15 mins every morning. Just some ideas anyway!
Your aloe plant is doing much better than mine!
ReplyDeleteI don't stretch before a run, other than shaking out my legs and getting them moving a bit. Any run higher than 2.5 miles, I stretch well afterwards. I do 20 minutes of yoga from yogadownload.com. I'm not disciplined enough to stretch on my own, I need something telling me how long to hold a stretch. The 20min stretches are perfect and I feel awesome afterwards!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the run - I'm very guilty of not stretching at all (Shhhhh don't tell anyone!)
ReplyDeleteThat chicken looks AMAZING!!!!
Thanks for all your great suggestions (and confessions!)
ReplyDeleteWelcome Terra!
And Foods That Fit - I sent you an email!
Heather - I am totally upset too.
Usually I only stretch with yoga, but I should do it everyday. I am going to do Tina's yoga challenge in March to help me out.
ReplyDeleteLove the bubbly chicken action. It looks super tasty. Although, everything looks super tasty to me today, since I can't eat any of it! HA!
